Sukant Panigrahy

Artist, film maker, production designer, social activist.

A renowned production designer and art director by profession and a social activist at heart, Sukant Panigrahy is a name to reckon with in the field of art-direction in Bollywood.

Mr Panigrahy, who has won many national and international awards for his art direction, has designed sets for several path-breaking movies like Gangajal , Chak De India, Aaja Nachle, Tashan, Bheja Fry 2 and Chillar Party. His production design for films like Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Dil Bole Hadippa!, Badmaash Company and No One Killed Jessica has attracted considerable critical attention in India as well as abroad.

He says, “Our film makers mistakenly believe that limited budgets come in the way of creating impressive sets of the sort they see in Bollywood or South Indian films. Dev D had a very low budget and yet I had all the freedom I needed to experiment with art direction, and the sets were much appreciated.”

Apart from art direction, Mr Panigrahy has also directed a few TV commercials, and is the the co-founder of a group called M.A.F.I.A . M.A.F.I.A is an institution that organises art-based events that serves as an informal, interactive platform for independent and upcoming artists, musicians and photographer.

Sukant Panigrahy will make an art installation at the Phoenix Market City mall and will organize a workshop during the Beauty of Recycling festival 2013.
